Chicago [US], January 27: Two teenagers were killed in a shooting in downtown Chicago on Friday, Chicago police and fire officials said.
The boys, 16-year-old and 17-year-old respectively, were leaving their high school with about four other people around 12:25 p.m., when two vehicles pulled up and several people exited and opened fire, Chicago Tribune reported Friday.
Each boy was shot in the chest, and the older boy was also shot in the hip. They were rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, and were pronounced dead a short time later, Chicago Fire Department spokesperson Larry Langford said.
Police are investigating the case.
Teenagers have been killed or wounded in shootings in Chicago's downtown area in recent years. According to local media, two teen boys, also 16 and 17, were shot in the downtown area in April 2023. A year earlier, a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed near the "Bean" sculpture in Millennium Park.
