Ottawa [Canada], October 21: More than 30 members of the Canadian Parliament on Friday urged Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to facilitate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
In a joint letter to Trudeau, the Canadian lawmakers expressed grave concern over the loss of innocent lives due to the ongoing bloody conflict.
Of the parliamentarians who signed the letter, 23 belong to the ruling Liberal Party of Canada.
"Canada has long been a voice for peace. The longer this conflict goes on, the more innocent civilians will pay with their lives. We demand that Canada join the growing international call for an immediate ceasefire. Canada must act before more innocent children are killed," said the letter signed by Canadian parliamentarians.
The signatories include Canada's former cabinet minister Omar Alghabra and six current parliamentary secretaries, according to local media reports.
The Canadian parliamentarians' letter comes after Hamas's surprise attack on Israeli military targets and towns adjacent to the Gaza Strip some two weeks ago, prompting extensive Israeli airstrikes on Gaza.
Meanwhile, Trudeau held a phone conversation with the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud on Friday, according to Trudeau's office.
During the talks, he reiterated Canada's longstanding support for a two-state solution and for the right of Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace and security.
The Israel-Hamas conflict, as it entered the 14th day on Friday, has killed more than 5,000 people on both sides.
