Sydney [Australia], July 20: A man was shot dead on Wednesday night by police in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW), which triggered a critical incident investigation.
In a statement released on Thursday, NSW Police Force said that at about 11:50 p.m. local time, emergency services were called to a home in Glebe, an inner-western suburb of Sydney, over concerns for a man's welfare.
Police officers were allegedly confronted by a 43-year-old man who was armed with a knife.
"One officer discharged a taser and another officer then discharged a firearm. The man was treated by NSW Ambulance; however, he died at the scene," said the police.
The Homicide Squad from NSW State Crime Command is expected to investigate all circumstances surrounding the man's death.
Police added that the investigation would be subject to an independent review and oversight by related authorities, with a report to be prepared for the Coroner.
This is the second critical incident investigation reported in NSW within five days that involved a police shooting.
