Moscow [Russia], January 31: Russian air defences repelled Ukrainian drone attacks on the Crimea peninsula and four other regions overnight, the Defence Ministry in Moscow said, while Russia fired 35 combat drones at Ukraine, the Ukrainian Air Force said on Tuesday morning.
A total of 21 Ukrainian drones were shot down, the ministry said. In addition to Crimea, the regions of Belgorod near the Ukrainian border, Bryansk in the west and Kaluga and Tula regions south of Moscow were also targeted.
Eleven drones were intercepted over the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea alone, Moscow said. There was no information about damage or casualties.
Ukraine was able to shoot down 15 of the 35, in the regions of Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kharkiv and Kiev, and elsewhere.
Russian forces also fired two S-300 anti-aircraft missiles converted for attacks on the eastern Donetsk region. According to the local authorities, a fire broke out in Dnipropetrovsk after a drone strike. There was initially no information about possible casualties.
Russia, which has been waging an all-out war against Ukraine for almost two years, has repeatedly bombarded the neighbouring country with drone and missile strikes. (DPA)
